Detailed Itinerary for Best of Nubra Valley (Ladakh) | 10 Nights/11 Days

Leh (11,500 ft) – Nubra Valley (10,000 ft) – Tso Pangong (14,270 ft) – Tso Moriri (14,836 ft) – Tso Kar (14,860 ft) – Leh

Day 01: Arrive in Leh

Upon arrival at Leh Airport, you will be welcomed by Unplugged Life’s representative and transferred to your guest house, rest of the evening at leisure to acclimatize. Overnight stay at Leh City: The capital of Ladakh, at one time was a major stop on the Asian “Silk Route”.

Day 02: Leh Sightseeing

Fall in for a jaunt of exploration with beautiful stopovers like; Leh Palace – Shanti Stupa – Hall of Fame – Gurudwara Sri Pathar Sahib – Sangam – Magnetic Hill

Day 03: Leh – Khardung La (18,380 ft) – Nubra Valley (Diskit – Hunder)

After breakfast drive to Nubra Valley, the road to the Nubra Valley goes through the highest motorable pass in the world, Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft). The Pass is almost permanently covered in fog and snow. On arrival, we first visit Esna monastery in Diskit that is over 250 years old. This is the oldest monastery in Nubra Valley. Later visit the sand dunes at Hunder, you can also enjoy a camel ride here (the camel ride is on direct payment basis). Later drive down to Hunder for an overnight stay at camp/guest house.

Day 04: Nubra Valley (Hunder – Turtuk – Hunder)

After an early breakfast you’ll drive towards Turtuk in Nubra Valley. Turtuk is a tiny village in Nubra Valley, set on the rocky banks of the Shyok River, inhabited primarily by ethnic muslim population. Turtuk is the last village before the LOC that is open to tourists. Even though the primary trade of Turtuk is agriculture, it can be seen that all around the village there are beautiful statues and intricate handicrafts made by the locals of the village. It is also one of the last towns in India to still have prominent Balti culture. The village is widely known for its apricot trees. Be sure to buy some apricots and try their authentic apricot based stew before heading back to Hunder for the night.

Day 05: Nubra Valley (Hunder – Panamik – Sumur)

After breakfast you’ll check-out and drive towards the village of Panamik; a gorgeous village surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, Panamik is the last destination for tourists traveling across Ladakh. Set on the outer fringes of this country it’s the northernmost village of India and lies on the way to Siachen Basecamp. It is famous for its soothing hot springs. The hot water springs of Panamik are enriched with a high amount of Sulphur. From Panamik you’ll drive down to Sumur. Upon arrival, you will check-in at the camp. You can spend the rest of the evening at your own leisure.

Day 06: Nubra Valley (Sumur) – Khardung La – Leh

After breakfast, you’ll check-out and visit Sumur. This picturesque village is famous and also an important stop since the holy monastery, Samstem Ling Gompa is located close to the village. The Samstem Ling Gompa other than its spiritual importance is also known for its frescos and gorgeous silk Thankas. From Sumur it’s a 110 km drive to Leh. Upon arrival you’ll check-in at the guest house and will have the rest of evening to yourself.

Day 07: Leh – Shey Palace – Thiksey Monastery – Chang La (17,590ft) – Tso Pangong

After an early breakfast, leave for Pangong Lake via the Chang-la pass, 3 rd highest motorable pass in the world (17,370 ft). On the way, we first stop at Shey Palace. The palace, mostly in ruins now, was built first in 1655. Later we visit Thiksey Monastery and continue our journey to Tso Pangong. Thiksey monastery is located at an altitude of 11,800 ft in the Indus Valley. Spend rest of the evening sightseeing around the lake. Later check into our resort/guest house.

Day 08: Tso Pangong – Chang La – Rancho School – Leh

Post breakfast visit the lake and after spending some time we drive back to Leh. On our way back we visit Rancho School (The school in the movie 3 Idiots). Upon arrival at Leh, check-in at our guest house, remaining of the evening at leisure.

Day 09: Leh – Chumathang – Maha Bridge – Tso Moriri

In the morning leave for Chumathang, which is famous for medical hot spring. From here a short drive will take you to Mahe bridge, the main checking point to enter to this new area. On the way visit, Sumdah village and another 55kms drive will take you to Tso Moriri. The Tso Moriri is the breeding ground for numerous species of birds like the bar-headed goose, crested grebe, the Brahmini duck (ruddy sheldrake) and the brown-headed gull. The Tso Morir is 8kms wide and 28kms long. Spend the night there in the tent.

Day 10: Tso Moriri – Tso Kar – Tanglang La – Leh

Post breakfast visit Tso Kar, which is at an altitude of 4090 mts. Later drive towards Leh via Tanglangla pass, which is at a height of 5350 mts and is the second highest motorable pass in the world. Upon arrival at Leh, check-in at our homestay/guest house.

Day 11: Depart Leh: Transfer to Airport

In the morning, transfer to the airport to board the flight to your onward destination.
